Holy Hiatus Batman

So it's been awhile since I last wrote, but the work has not stopped. As in so many other cases, the reporting about the work often gets forgotten when the work is being done. I've got a good start on five or so songs, only a few verses and some overdubs away from being ready to go to mixing and layering on the finishing layers. That can sometimes lead to a lot more work when you realize that you need to revamp something and start with a new tempo or something. I keep meaning to post a sample from a song or two, but I think they're still extremely raw and wouldn't do to be heard by the outside world.

I've been experimenting with a lot more vocal double tracking than I've done in the past, but it does help a lot sometimes. There are a few effects that I can't figure out how the studios do. Layering just a whole bunch of voices doesn't really give the effect I want, and I tried putting a bunch of delays and reverbs set to different settings on each of the many voices, but that really just muddies the waters and actually makes it sound like FEWER voices. Also, vocals are only unison parts - no harmony - so I think that adding some different notes in the vocal will probably make it a lot broader. I'm getting good guitar sounds; I wish the mix would sound as good out of the computer speakers as it does in my headphones, but that's why I do the mixing on the speakers, so it sounds REALLY good on the headphones. I'm looking forward to the end of the semester when I can get some more work done on it.
